INDICATIONS
Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) is indicated for the suppressive treatment and treatment of acute attacks of malaria. It is also indicated for the treatment of discoid and systemic lupus erythematosus, and rheumatoid arthritis.
INSTRUCTIONS
You should not use Plaquenil if you are allergic to hydroxychloroquine, or if you have a history of vision changes or damage to your retina caused by hydroxychloroquine or similar anti-malaria medications. Before using Plaquenil, tell your doctor if you are allergic to any drugs, or if you have psoriasis, porphyria, liver disease, alcoholism, or glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD) deficiency.
Take Plaquenil exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. Follow the directions on your prescription label.Take Plaquenil with a meal or a glass of milk, unless your doctor tells you otherwise. Plaquenil is sometimes given only once per week. Choose the same day each week to take this medication if you are on a weekly dosing schedule.
DOSAGE
Consult a doctor concerning the required dosage. If you missed a dose take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.
STORAGE
Dispense in a tight, light-resistant container. Store at room temperature up to 30° C (86° F).
